Beginning this fall and into next year, a small but powerful change will take place inside 355 homes in six Housing Authority of Champaign County properties throughout Urbana and Champaign. Residents won’t really be able to see this change. But once it comes, it can help transform families in so many ways, unlocking new educational opportunities, breaking down healthcare barriers, and unleashing new employment prospects.

Residents across the cities of Champaign and Urbana now have access to new affordable fiber internet services through an innovative—and historic—open access arrangement. Volo Internet + Tech (Volo), an Urbana-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) serving Champaign County’s businesses and residents, now provides gigabit fiber services using the fiber broadband network constructed by the nonprofit organization, UC2B (http://uc2b.net).

Volo Broadband will host a "ribbon cutting" ceremony and public demonstration of its Digital Water fiber broadband services, 3-6pm 7/27/2013 at the Thomasboro Fire Station (101 N Church St., Thomasboro, IL). The event is an opportunity for residents of Central Illinois to try the next generation of fiber broadband and ask questions about the services, and how and when they might be available in their community. Refreshments will be provided. Starting at $29.95/mo and available now throughout Thomasboro, Digital Water Gigabit Fiber is the nation's first sub-$30/mo gigabit fiber service.

Volo Broadband activated the first UC2B customer on Wednesday August 22nd. Volo is subcontracted to install UC2B customers. This marks the beginning of installations for a possible 2,400 residential UC2B customers in Champaign-Urbana.  Click to see if you are eligible for free UC2B installation.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- May 21 2010 -- Volo Broadband today announced that it has completed the first phase of its 2010 capacity-upgrade plan, adding 50 miles of underground conduit infrastructure and one gigabit per second (Gbps) of additional backbone capacity.

Volo Broadband, a local Internet service provider in Champaign-Urbana, recently moved to 822 Pioneer Street in Champaign. Tony Grilo, Volo Broadband's Head Technician, said there were several influencing factors in moving to our new location, but the main reason was growth.
